Political Science BA with a Specialization in Prelaw (beginning Fall 2026)
TCNJ is proud to offer a Political Science Bachelor’s Degree with a Specialization in Prelaw. The new program is designed to give students a broad overview of law and courts and then allow students to gain specialized knowledge about specific aspects of the legal system.
The Political Science Specialization in Prelaw is a three-course sequence. Political Science majors who are interested in prelaw can choose to add a specialization within the major. After successfully completing POL 110/American Government, a required course for all majors, students complete three prelaw classes.
Students take a course that offers a broad overview of the legal system.
- POL 220/Judicial Politics & Process
Then take two advanced law electives from the list below:
- POL 320/Law & Society
- POL 321/Constitutional Law I – Institutions and Powers
- POL 322/Constitutional Law II – Civil Rights and Liberties,
- POL 325/Mock Trial
The three prelaw classes count as 3 of the 5 electives needed for the political science major. All other requirements of the political science major remain the same.
