Dr. Tao Dumas joined the Political Science Department in the fall of 2014. Prior to that she worked at the University at Albany (SUNY) and the Louisiana State University Paul M. Hebert Law Center. She received her PhD from Louisiana State University and her BA from Lamar University. Her research focuses on the political role of U.S. courts and the ways lawyers shape and work within the legal system. She is particularly interested in how institutional differences across states condition winners and losers in the courts and how attorneys’ experience, expertise, and demographic characteristics impact their legal practices. Dr. Dumas teaches the political science department’s prelaw course sequence (Judicial Politics, Law and Society, Constitutional Law I, and Constitutional Law II). She also chairs the College’s Prelaw Advisory Committee.
