The Taiwan Question at 75: Coexistence and Confrontation, Past and Future
On Friday, November 1 at 12:30 pm in SSB 223, Dr. Brian C. Chao will present The Taiwan Question at 75: Coexistence and Confrontation, Past and Future. As we approach the 75th anniversary of Chiang Kai-shek’s retreat to Taiwan and the creation of the present-day political split across the Taiwan Strait, this talk considers the major inflection points in cross-strait relations over the previous decades, America’s role in what is increasingly described as the world’s most dangerous flashpoint, and future prospects for Taiwan, its people, and regional peace and stability.
Brian C. Chao is an assistant professor in the National Security Affairs Department at the US Naval War College and an associate of the Center for the Study of Contemporary China at the University of Pennsylvania. He teaches and researches on great-power politics and US-PRC relations, naval power and geostrategy, and Taiwan and cross-strait issues.
The presentation is sponsored by TCNJ Politics Forum and the TCNJ Asian and Asian American Pacific Islander Coalition.
