Political Science deals with the making of binding decisions for a society. The discipline examines public policy making not only in the United States, but throughout the world and in the international arena as well. Political theories, both past and present, inform the decision-making of participants in this process and are therefore part of the subject matter of political science.
The study of political science involves reading and interpreting texts, gathering and weighing evidence, interpreting political events, evaluating theories about politics, and analyzing public policies. By engaging in these activities, students learn the fundamentals of scholarship, develop a concept of what it means to be a citizen of a representative democracy, and become familiar with the traditions of liberal education.
Our graduates this year included several members of Phi Beta Kappa and Phi Kappa Phi and twenty members of Pi Sigma Alpha, the National Political Science Honor Society.

To alumni and friends: Political Science professor Daryl Fair passed away Tuesday, January 10th, after battling illness for several years. Dr. Fair taught at The College for 44 years before retiring in 2014. In addition to being a leading figure in the Political Science Department, Dr. Fair developed TCNJ’s Pre-Law Program, mentored and advised a generation of students, and helped place many students in top law schools. Professor Fair also invested his time and energy in The College’s Moot Court program, taking students to regional and national competitions. Most importantly, Professor Fair taught students to critically examine political processes through rigorous reasoning and the use of evidence and is remembered fondly as a kind and caring instructor.
